Bulletin Description:

The Professional Computing Experience course is an immersive, project-based, experiential course intended to draw on skills and knowledge gained in courses throughout the Master in Computer Science program. Students will be immersed in a semester-long open-ended computer science project that requires the selection and application of appropriate skills, tools and methodologies covered in the MCS program to address the problem at hand. In preparation for the project, ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs will read and analyze “grey literature” (i.e., professional magazines, technical reports, and working papers) on the current and evolving trends in computing fields. Students will appropriately communicate their findings and project results to multiple audiences.

Prerequisites:

Completion of 12 hours of coursework in the Master of Computer Science

Learning Outcomes:

1. Investigate and analyze current and evolving trends in computing fields in preparation for framing a problem to solve
2. Formulate an open-ended computing problem in order to develop an approach for finding a solution
3. Apply appropriate computing or software engineering tools and methods to solve an open-ended computational problem
4. Present findings in a meaningful and effective way to multiple audiences
5. Demonstrate the need for, and engage in, continuing professional development
