Course Description

The course covers graphics hardware, game engine architectures, and the mathematics and algorithms used to create digital games. ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵics will include shader based rendering and programming. Students will implement portions of a game engine which incorporates animation, collision detection, and simulated physics. Programming required.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Construct and utilize vertex and fragment shaders to simulate realistic lighting and other rendering effects
2. Implement a basic scene-graph architecture that supports real-time rendering of an animated scene
3. Formulate and solve problems to determine orientations and positions relative to a specified coordinate frame using transformation arithmetic
4. Demonstrate through implementation an understanding of collision detection and rigid body dynamics to simulate real-time physics
5. Analyze an interactive application involving real-time rendering to correct inefficiencies
6. (Graduate ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs only) Independently re-implement advanced rendering algorithms and merge them into a rendering pipeline
7. (Graduate ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs only) Contrast and compare alternative techniques for solving problems in computer graphics or real-time visual simulation
