Miami requires employees to substitute accrued paid sick leave (e.g., vacation, sick leave, personal leave) for family and medical leaves whenever permitted by law.

Sick leave is the authorized absence of an employee from regular duties because of illness, injury, pregnancy, exposure to contagious disease, family health situations requiring attendance of the employee, health care appointments, and death in the immediate family.

In the event of an injury at work, you will be protected by workers compensation insurance provided by the state of Ohio.

Transitional work, sometimes referred to as "light duty" is an interim step in the physical recovery of an employee who suffers an occupational or a non-occupational injury or illness that prevents the employee from working in his/her current position.

Employees may use compensatory time off at a time mutually convenient to the employee and the university. Compensatory time is not available for use until the week following being earned.

Immediate family members are allowed up to five days of sick leave; however, all other individuals must receive permission from their supervisor before taking advantage of vacation time, personal time, or comp time.
