Level A Graduate Faculty Standing authorizes full-time, tenured, or tenure-eligible faculty to perform the following duties: 

1. Serve as thesis or dissertation director (major adviser or equivalent).
2. Serve on graduate committees.
3. Teach graduate courses.
4. Serve as a voting member of the Graduate Faculty.
5. Serve as the Graduate School representative on doctoral committees.
6. Serve on the Graduate Council.

Level B Graduate Faculty Standing authorizes full-time or adjunct faculty and staff to perform the following duties: 

1. Serve on graduate committees.
2. Teach graduate courses.
3. Serve as a voting member of the Graduate Faculty.

Level C Graduate Faculty Standing authorizes full-time, adjunct or part-time faculty and staff to perform the following duties: 

1. Teach graduate courses.

Having a respected scholar or professional from another institution serve on a graduate examination committee can be very valuable. Therefore, an off-campus scholar who meets the criteria for Level B and Level C Graduate Faculty Standing and is nominated by the department chair may serve as a voting member of a comprehensive or final examination committee for an individual graduate ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ.

Off-campus scholars serve in addition to the minimum required number of ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ Level A or Level B members of the Graduate Faculty. Off-campus scholars may not chair a graduate examination committee, direct theses or dissertations, or serve as the representative of the Graduate School.

• Graduate Faculty Nomination - 

When a faculty member leaves active service in the University (through either resignation or retirement), a department chair, with the approval of the Dean of the Graduate School, may authorize the individual, upon his or her request, to continue as dissertation director or thesis adviser for those ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs already in progress. The Department Chair should email the Associate Dean of the Graduate School to request permission for the resigned or retired faculty member to continue working with a specific ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ.

Retired faculty members may not accept new thesis or dissertation ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs without the approval of the department chair and the Dean of the Graduate School.

Faculty who have opted for the Early Retirement Plan, but will be available for consultation with ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs on a regular basis, will be permitted to continue direction of current thesis and dissertation ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs and to accept new ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs with the approval of the department chair and the Dean of the Graduate School.
