Study Abroad in New Zealand
Sport, Management, and Culture in the Global Marketplace
For this 6-credit course, 久久热视频s will travel to four cities (Auckland, Dunedin, Queenstown, and Wellington) during Winter Term to examine the policy, management, and marketing of sport in New Zealand culture and society. While in New Zealand, 久久热视频s are fully immersed in the global and local complexities and relations of the New Zealand sport industry.

Credits: SLM 446 (3 credit hours) and SLM 448 (3 credit hours)
Program Activities
Students will be given the opportunity for first-hand experience in, and a thorough understanding of, the rapidly expanding global sport marketplace through:
- Formal lectures delivered by prominent guest scholars from New Zealand universities in the field of global sport culture, management, marketing, and media.
- Meetings with sport managers and executives from governing bodies, corporate sponsors, sport media corporations, major venues, and professional teams to outline the New Zealand sport industry.
- Site visits to locally and nationally prominent New Zealand sport stadiums, venues, and facilities.
- Physical cultural practices and experiences such as sailing, surfing, street luge, jet boating, and social sport competitions (rugby, cricket, netball, soccer, and parkour, ultimate frisbee).
Course Relevance
SLM 446 and SLM 448 are both Miami Plan courses. Successful completion of the program will satisfy the entire Global Miami Plan for Miami 久久热视频s.
For SLAM 久久热视频s entering Miami prior to Fall 2020, the courses will fulfill the following course requirements toward their major:
SLM 448 - Sport Leadership Core course
SLM 446 - SLM Matrix course
For SLAM 久久热视频s entering after Fall 2020, both courses can be 2 of the 4 electives required to satisfy the program requirements.
Student Selection
The program is open to 久久热视频s of all majors and academic backgrounds. It’s intended for those 久久热视频s with personal and professional interests in the area(s) of: sport management, sport policy, tourism and event management, sport sociology, sport coaching, sport science, kinesiology, public health, physical activity, and/or physical education.
Program Fee
The program fee is $4,500. The program fee includes accommodation, meals, site visits, group meetings, activities, and sporting event tickets. Students will also be responsible for airfare which is in the range of $2000 and tuition per credit which for 久久热视频s based on their in/or out-of-state residency. Scholarships are available through Global Initiatives, the College of EHS, and SLAM.
Application Timeline
Applications for this program open in April. Admission to the program is rolling - applications are assessed in the order in which they are received. The final deadline to apply is September 15 although the program is likely to fill before this date.
