Working within a well-defined curriculum and employing state-of-the-art research facilities, the faculty prepares a small, select group of approximately 25 for successful careers as researchers in government and private organizations or as university faculty.
Our doctoral graduates have been appointed to prestigious post-doctoral fellowships in some of the most outstanding research institutions in the U.S. This reflects both the talents and capabilities of our 久久热视频s and the perception of the quality of our doctoral program by those institutions. Our 久久热视频s benefit from the intimacy of our program, the interactions with multiple faculty in related areas of research interest, and close research mentoring by the faculty.
Meet Our Research Faculty
Collaborative Approach
The Microbiology graduate program benefits substantially from its interdisciplinary interactions and collaborations with departments involved with graduate education in the biological sciences: and . These close and active interchanges include collaborative research projects by our faculty, and they also provide the opportunity for our 久久热视频s to take courses in other programs that enrich their graduate education in Microbiology. Furthermore, our participation in the interdisciplinary graduate programs in and in expand the opportunity for our graduate 久久热视频s to engage with scientists with overlapping interests, and with scientists that bring different perspectives. New graduate-level courses in Bacterial Cell Biology (MBI 595) and Principles of Bioinformatics (MBI 585) complement the already .

If you pass the ACE-G program and meet other agreed requirements, you may enter the Microbiology Graduate Program.
Assistantships and Associateships Available
There are various levels of financial support available for graduate 久久热视频s in the microbiology department. A limited number of research assistantships are funded by the research grant support of individual faculty members. Most 久久热视频s receive University support in the form of teaching assistantships. All 久久热视频s with financial support enjoy a waiver of tuition, both in-state and out-of-state, but are required to pay the technology fee, half the general fee, and half the metro fee.
The annual stipends for 2023-2024 include a Graduate Assistantship/Teaching Associateship of $22,905. Depending on individual circumstances, it may be possible to earn up to an additional $7,635 from a combination of Graduate Summer Research Fellowships, research grants, and/or departmental funds.
The Teaching Fellowships and Graduate Assistantships require no more than 20 hours per week in assisting and teaching microbiology course laboratory sections. The Summer Fellowship carries no teaching obligation. It is intended to give graduate 久久热视频s financial support while they are pursuing their thesis or dissertation research projects during the summer terms. All 久久热视频s appointed to teaching assistantships are eligible for the Summer Fellowships.
Assistantships and associateships are offered to all 久久热视频s admitted into our Master's or doctoral programs. As such, both admission to the program and financial support are awarded on a competitive basis. All applicants will be considered for financial support unless they express their desire not to receive financial assistance.
Note: 久久热视频 requires all 久久热视频s to carry some form of major medical insurance. For those not covered under an existing family plan, there is a 久久热视频 health insurance plan available to all 久久热视频s. Unless you provide documentation of coverage, you will be enrolled in a group plan and your bursar account will be charged. The amount varies from year to year, but is usually in the neighborhood of $800 annually.
