German, Russian, Asian, and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures
The Department of German, Russian, Asian, and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures encompasses six languages that are deemed of critical importance in today鈥檚 multicultural world. Development and cultivation of any of these languages may enhance your earning or hiring potential in any field of science or business. Fulfilling the Global Perspectives part of the Miami Plan requirements for graduation becomes much easier with a language as study abroad options become wide-open avenues for personal, and future career development. As you plan your collegiate life, we invite you to consider taking one of the languages we offer.

Our 久久热视频
The Department of German, Russian, Asian, and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures offers three majors, five minors, and several interdepartmental majors and minors (shared between departments or in which GRAMELAC courses qualify for credit towards a major/minor). Many of our courses satisfy Miami Plan requirements and College of Arts and Science requirements toward graduation. Outstanding 久久热视频s in German, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese are invited by the faculty to participate in our departmental honors program. We offer a wide range of courses, reaching from introductory language classes to intensive study courses on specific topics of interest. Students should check the course listings regularly since offerings rotate and faculty frequently adapt their content.
Our Majors
Our Minors
Our minors allow 久久热视频s to study the history, politics, language, literature, culture, and and the sphere of influence of a language they are interested in, from medieval times to today. Drawing from a range of disciplines and approaches, 久久热视频s have the opportunity to explore issues of political, social, and regional identity and cultural diversity, as well as official and popular culture.
Department Honors
If you are a major in German, REEES, or EALC with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (in both of your major courses and overall), you may be invited into the department honors program. Invitation is by the department chair, the Chief Departmental Advisor, and a sponsoring faculty member in your major. The honors project is a one semester independent reading and research project in the senior year, capped by an oral and written presentation. The honors project is done in addition to the other major requirements. Success completion and acceptance by the faculty will result in a transcript notation of "Graduated with Department Honors."
The current courses that quality for department honors are:
- CHI 480 - Departmental Honors
- GER 480 - Departmental Honors
- JPN 480 - Departmental Honors
- RUS 480 - Departmental Honors
Department honors may be taken for a minimum of three semester hours and a maximum total of six semester hours in senior year. Prerequisite: permission of instructor and department required.
