Function

The functions of the Athletic Policy Committee are to represent University Senate and to advise the President and the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics about matters affecting the academic and athletic integrity of intercollegiate athletics, including, but not limited to, matters affecting ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ-athlete welfare. The Committee shall advise the Athletic Director generally on policies for ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ athletes including standards of academic eligibility, ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ support and health, academic integrity and progress, equity, including Title IX, and NCAA, MAC and CCHA issues.

The Committee is charged with the responsibility to track the academic progress of current athletes, to analyze that academic data and to make recommendations to the Athletic Director on related policy. The Committee shall advise the President and University Senate on the sports in which Miami will participate. The Chair of the Athletic Policy Committee shall be kept informed of the search processes for head coaches and the intercollegiate athletic director. The Committee is involved in NCAA recertification process.

Composition

• Six (6) faculty or staff members, at least one of whom shall be a member of University Senate.
  • Three (3) of the faculty or staff members shall be selected by the Executive Committee from a list of six (6) or more nominees submitted by the President.
  • Three (3) faculty or staff members shall be selected as provided in Section 6.A of the Bylaws of University Senate.
• Three (3) ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs
  • Two (2) of the ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ members, one (1) female and one (1) male, shall be selected from ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ intercollegiate athletic teams.
  • Two (2) female and two (2) male nominees shall be selected by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and their names forwarded to Associated Student Government, which shall inform the Executive Committee of University Senate of its choices.
  • One (1) ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ member shall be chosen by Associated Student Government from among ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs who are not formally involved in intercollegiate athletics.
• Two (2) ex officio nonvoting member
  • The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • A faculty representative to the Mid-American Conference from ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ (chosen by the President).
