Professional Experience
Prior to coming to Miami, Stephanie served as an interim director of an RN-BSN nursing program and as a full-time faculty member for a proprietary institution. Stephanie has a strong background in community and public health, serving as a public health nurse and administrator for a public health non-profit for almost 10 years.
Service
Stephanie has been a integral in creating the Hamilton Campus’ Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and has served as a founding member of the CTL’s Leadership Collaborative. The CTL Leadership Collaborative strives to embody and promote engagement with scholarly and reflective teaching practices in order to support the intellectual development of faculty and staff and the academic life of the campus. Stephanie is actively involved in the Butler County community and serves as the leader for the county’s Growing Healthy Kids Advisory Council, promoting healthy eating and physical activity among the early childhood population. She is a first-wave member of the Butler County Infant Mortality Reduction Collaborative, a member of the Head Start and Early Head Start Health Advisory Council, and of the Butler County Early Childhood Collaborative.
Research
Stephanie’s research interests focus on the application of public health principles in examining major public health issues affecting vulnerable groups. Currently, Stephanie is examining the issue of childhood obesity among low-income preschoolers and children of the Native American community using a community-based participatory research approach.
